Ingredients:

  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk (whole milk preferred)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Ground nutmeg or cinnamon (for sprinkling on top)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs until well beaten. Add the milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Continue whisking until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
  3. Pour the custard mixture into a greased 9-inch pie pan or baking dish.
  4. To prevent cracking and ensure even cooking, place the filled baking dish inside a larger roasting pan. Fill the outer pan with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the custard dish.
  5. Carefully transfer to your preheated oven. Bake for about 45–55 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Once baked, remove from oven and allow to cool slightly before serving. Sprinkle with ground nutmeg or cinnamon on top if desired.
