Ingredients:
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups milk (whole milk preferred)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Ground nutmeg or cinnamon (for sprinkling on top)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs until well beaten. Add the milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Continue whisking until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
- Pour the custard mixture into a greased 9-inch pie pan or baking dish.
- To prevent cracking and ensure even cooking, place the filled baking dish inside a larger roasting pan. Fill the outer pan with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the custard dish.
- Carefully transfer to your preheated oven. Bake for about 45–55 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Once baked, remove from oven and allow to cool slightly before serving. Sprinkle with ground nutmeg or cinnamon on top if desired.
