Ingredients:
- 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (2 sticks)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Royal icing or powdered sugar for dusting
- Food coloring (for icing)
- Sprinkles, edible glitter, or colored sugars
Instructions:
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, using an electric mixer at medium speed, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about3 to5 minutes).
- Add Egg & Vanilla: Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Combine Wet & Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture while mixing at low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Chill: Divide dough into two equal portions and wrap each tightly in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least one hour or overnight if possible to firm up.
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to350°F(175°C)and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Roll Out Dough: On a lightly floured surface, take one portion of chilled dough out of refrigeration and roll it out to about¼-inch thickness.
