Ingredients:

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (2 sticks)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Royal icing or powdered sugar for dusting
  • Food coloring (for icing)
  • Sprinkles, edible glitter, or colored sugars

Instructions:

  1. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  2. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, using an electric mixer at medium speed, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about3 to5 minutes).
  3. Add Egg & Vanilla: Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Combine Wet & Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture while mixing at low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Chill: Divide dough into two equal portions and wrap each tightly in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least one hour or overnight if possible to firm up.
  6. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to350°F(175°C)and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Roll Out Dough: On a lightly floured surface, take one portion of chilled dough out of refrigeration and roll it out to about¼-inch thickness.
