Ingredients:

  • 2 cans (15 oz each) navy beans or great northern beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 lb ground beef (85% lean)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce (homemade or store-bought)
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp mustard powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon as it cooks. This should take about 5–7 minutes.
  3. Add the chopped onion to the skillet with cooked beef and sauté for another 3–4 minutes, until onions are translucent. Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  4. Reduce heat to low and stir in: Barbecue sauce, Ketchup, Brown sugar, Apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, Smoked paprika, Mustard powder.
  5. Gently fold in the drained navy or great northern beans into the mixture until everything is evenly combined.
  6. Taste your mixture and season with salt and pepper as needed.
  7. Pour everything into a greased casserole dish (around 9x13 inches). Spread it out evenly.
  8. Cover your baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in preheated oven for about 30 minutes covered; then remove foil and bake uncovered for an additional 20–30 minutes until bubbly.
  9. Once done baking, let it cool slightly before serving! Enjoy warm!
