Ingredients:
- 1 pound ziti pasta (or penne)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 pound ground beef (or Italian sausage)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 24 ounces marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 15 ounces ricotta cheese
- 1 large egg
- Pinch of salt
- 8 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions:
- In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook ziti according to package instructions until al dente.
- Drain the pasta and set aside.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil.
- Add ground beef (or sausage) and season with salt and pepper; cook until browned.
- Stir in minced garlic; cook for an additional minute.
- Pour in marinara sauce; simmer on low heat for about five minutes.
- In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese with egg and a pinch of salt; mix well.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine cooked ziti with meat sauce mixture until evenly coated.
- Layer half of this mixture into a greased baking dish.
- Spread all of the ricotta mixture over this layer.
- Top with remaining pasta mixture.
