Ingredients:

  • 12 ounces (340g) fresh or frozen cranberries, rinsed
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1 cup (240ml) water
  • 1 large orange, zested and juiced (about 1/2 cup juice)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • Pinch of ground cloves (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In the saucepan, combine cranberries, sugar, water, orange zest, orange juice, cinnamon, and cloves (if using).
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar.
  3. Reduce heat to low and simmer, uncovered, for 20-25 minutes, or until the cranberries have burst and the sauce has thickened. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  4. Remove from heat and let cool completely. The sauce will thicken as it cools. Give it a taste and adjust sweetness if desired.
  5. Chill the Cranberry Orange Sauce in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving. This allows the flavors to meld together beautifully.
