Ingredients:
- 12 ounces (340g) fresh or frozen cranberries, rinsed
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 1 cup (240ml) water
- 1 large orange, zested and juiced (about 1/2 cup juice)
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
- Pinch of ground cloves (optional)
Instructions:
- In the saucepan, combine cranberries, sugar, water, orange zest, orange juice, cinnamon, and cloves (if using).
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer, uncovered, for 20-25 minutes, or until the cranberries have burst and the sauce has thickened. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Remove from heat and let cool completely. The sauce will thicken as it cools. Give it a taste and adjust sweetness if desired.
- Chill the Cranberry Orange Sauce in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving. This allows the flavors to meld together beautifully.
