Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened (226 g)
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed (200 g)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar (100 g)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract (10 ml)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (240 g)
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda (5 g)
  • ½ teaspoon salt (2 g)
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (170 g)
  • ½ cup chopped nuts (optional) (75 g)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease the baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  3. In a bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until creamy.
  4. Whisk in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Slowly incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  6. Gently fold in the chocolate chips and nuts, if using.
  7. Evenly spread the batter into the prepared baking pan.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set (a toothpick should come out with a few moist crumbs).
  9. Allow to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before cutting into bars.
