Ingredients:

  • 1 (9-inch) frozen pie crust, thawed
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups (360 ml) heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 cups (170g) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • Optional: Cooked bacon, ham, sautéed vegetables (onion, mushrooms, spinach)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C, Gas Mark 5).
  2. Gently press the thawed pie crust into the pie plate. Crimp the edges for a decorative touch. Pre-bake the crust for about 10 minutes, until it's beginning to turn golden. Remove it from the oven.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, heavy cream, milk, salt, pepper, and nutmeg until well combined.
  4. Sprinkle the cheddar cheese evenly over the bottom of the pre-baked pie crust. If using, add any other filling additions (bacon, vegetables, etc.) on top of the cheese.
  5. Carefully pour the custard mixture over the cheese and other fillings.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-55 minutes, or until the custard is set but still slightly jiggly in the center. A knife inserted near the center should come out mostly clean.
  7. Let the quiche cool for at least 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
