Ingredients:
- 1 (9-inch) frozen pie crust, thawed
- 4 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups (360 ml) heavy cream
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) whole milk
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 1/2 cups (170g) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- Optional: Cooked bacon, ham, sautéed vegetables (onion, mushrooms, spinach)
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C, Gas Mark 5).
- Gently press the thawed pie crust into the pie plate. Crimp the edges for a decorative touch. Pre-bake the crust for about 10 minutes, until it's beginning to turn golden. Remove it from the oven.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, heavy cream, milk, salt, pepper, and nutmeg until well combined.
- Sprinkle the cheddar cheese evenly over the bottom of the pre-baked pie crust. If using, add any other filling additions (bacon, vegetables, etc.) on top of the cheese.
- Carefully pour the custard mixture over the cheese and other fillings.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-55 minutes, or until the custard is set but still slightly jiggly in the center. A knife inserted near the center should come out mostly clean.
- Let the quiche cool for at least 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
