Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (200g) long-grain white rice
  • 2 cups (475ml) water
  • ½ teaspoon (3g) salt (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Place the rice in a fine-mesh sieve. Rinse under cold running water, swirling the rice with your fingers, until the water runs clear.
  2. Add the rinsed rice, water, and salt (if using) to the saucepan.
  3. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil over medium-high heat.
  4. Once boiling, immediately reduce the heat to the lowest setting, cover the saucepan tightly with the lid.
  5. Simmer for 18 minutes undisturbed. Resist the urge to lift the lid during this time.
  6. After 18 minutes, remove the saucepan from the heat and let it sit, covered, for 10 minutes.
  7. After resting, gently fluff the rice with a fork. Serve immediately.
