Ingredients:

  • 8 slices day-old brioche or challah bread
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Maple syrup, honey, or fruit preserves (optional)
  • Powdered sugar (optional)
  • Fresh berries (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Cut the bread slices into sticks, about 1-inch thick.
  2. In the shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
  3. Dip each bread stick into the custard mixture, ensuring both sides are evenly coated. Don't soak for too long.
  4. Melt the butter in a large non-stick skillet over medium heat.
  5. Place the soaked bread sticks in the hot skillet, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.
  6. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the French Toast Sticks from the skillet.
  7. Serve immediately with your favorite toppings.
