Ingredients:
- 8 slices day-old brioche or challah bread
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup whole milk
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ⅛ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- Pinch of salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- Maple syrup, honey, or fruit preserves (optional)
- Powdered sugar (optional)
- Fresh berries (optional)
Instructions:
- Cut the bread slices into sticks, about 1-inch thick.
- In the shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
- Dip each bread stick into the custard mixture, ensuring both sides are evenly coated. Don't soak for too long.
- Melt the butter in a large non-stick skillet over medium heat.
- Place the soaked bread sticks in the hot skillet, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.
- Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the French Toast Sticks from the skillet.
- Serve immediately with your favorite toppings.
