Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (250g) All-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp (25g) Granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp Baking powder
  • ½ tsp Baking soda
  • ½ tsp Fine sea salt
  • 1 ½ cups (355ml) Full-fat buttermilk
  • 2 Large eggs
  • 4 tbsp (56g) Unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 tsp Pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Fresh strawberries, sliced into V shapes

Instructions:

  1. Combine the 2 cups all purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl. Whisking aerates the flour for a lighter batter.
  2. In a separate jug, beat the 2 large eggs into the 1 ½ cups buttermilk, then stir in the melted butter and vanilla.
  3. Pour the wet mix into the dry. Stir until just combined—a few lumps are totally fine.
  4. Let it sit for 5 minutes. Until you see small bubbles forming on the surface.
  5. Pour about half the batter into a squeeze bottle. This is for the detailed outlines.
  6. Set a non stick skillet over medium low heat and lightly grease with butter.
  7. Squeeze a heart outline onto the pan. Until the edges start to set slightly (about 15 seconds).
  8. Quickly fill the inside of the heart with more batter from the bottle or a small spoon.
  9. Cook for 2 minutes until bubbles pop and stay open on the surface.
  10. Flip carefully and cook for another 1 minute until golden and crackling on both sides.
