Ingredients:
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour (190 g)
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed (113 g)
- 4-6 tablespoons ice water
- 6 large eggs
- 1 cup heavy cream (240 ml)
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, Swiss, or your choice) (120 g)
- 1 cup cooked and chopped vegetables (spinach, bell peppers, mushrooms, etc.)
- 1 cup cooked meat (ham, bacon, or sausage) (150 g) – optional
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
- Salt to taste
Instructions:
- Combine flour and salt in a mixing bowl.
- Cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in ice water one tablespoon at a time until dough forms.
- Shape into a disc, wrap in plastic, and chill for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- On a floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to fit the pie dish.
- Transfer dough to the pie dish and trim excess.
- Prick the bottom of the crust with a fork.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes until lightly golden. Remove from oven and let cool.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, cream, salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
- Stir in cheese, vegetables, and meat if using.
- Pour filling into the pre-baked crust.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the filling is set and the top is golden brown.
- Allow quiche to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm or at room temperature.
