Ingredients:
- 1 bottle (750 ml) of dry red wine (e.g. Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon)
- 2-3 Honeycrisp apples, cored and thinly sliced (about 2 cups)
- 1 cup (240 ml) apple cider (unsweetened for less sweetness or sweetened for more)
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) brandy or apple brandy
- 1/4 cup (50 g) brown sugar (packed for sweetness)
- 1-2 cinnamon sticks (adjust to taste)
- 1 orange, thinly sliced (for garnish)
- Club soda or ginger ale (to top off, optional)
- Fresh rosemary or mint sprigs (for garnish, optional)
Instructions:
- Core and thinly slice the Honeycrisp apples. Thinly slice the orange.
- In a large pitcher, combine the red wine, apple cider, brandy, and brown sugar. Stir until the brown sugar is fully dissolved.
- Add the sliced apples, orange, and cinnamon sticks to the wine mixture.
- Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, allowing flavors to meld.
- Pour the sangria into glasses over ice (if desired) and top with club soda or ginger ale for some fizz. Garnish with fresh rosemary or mint sprigs.
