Ingredients:

  • 1 bottle (750 ml) of dry red wine (e.g. Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon)
  • 2-3 Honeycrisp apples, cored and thinly sliced (about 2 cups)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) apple cider (unsweetened for less sweetness or sweetened for more)
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) brandy or apple brandy
  • 1/4 cup (50 g) brown sugar (packed for sweetness)
  • 1-2 cinnamon sticks (adjust to taste)
  • 1 orange, thinly sliced (for garnish)
  • Club soda or ginger ale (to top off, optional)
  • Fresh rosemary or mint sprigs (for garnish, optional)

Instructions:

  1. Core and thinly slice the Honeycrisp apples. Thinly slice the orange.
  2. In a large pitcher, combine the red wine, apple cider, brandy, and brown sugar. Stir until the brown sugar is fully dissolved.
  3. Add the sliced apples, orange, and cinnamon sticks to the wine mixture.
  4. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, allowing flavors to meld.
  5. Pour the sangria into glasses over ice (if desired) and top with club soda or ginger ale for some fizz. Garnish with fresh rosemary or mint sprigs.
