Ingredients:
- 6 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix), peeled, cored, and sliced ¼ inch thick (approx. 900g / 2 lbs)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (28g / 1 oz), melted
- ¼ cup honey (85g / 3 oz)
- 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (15ml / 0.5 fl oz)
- ¼ cup chopped walnuts (30g / 1 oz), toasted
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (120g / 4.2 oz)
- ½ cup rolled oats (45g / 1.6 oz)
- ½ cup packed light brown sugar (100g / 3.5 oz)
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter (113g / 4 oz), cut into small cubes
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
Instructions:
- Combine melted butter, honey, cardamom, lemon juice, and cornstarch in a large bowl. Add apple slices and toss to coat evenly. Fold in toasted walnuts.
- Transfer apple mixture to the pie dish or skillet.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apple filling.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbly. If the topping is browning too quickly, cover it loosely with foil.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
