Ingredients:
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 4 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt
- 8 slices of thick-cut bread (like brioche or challah)
- Unsalted butter for frying
- Whipped cream (optional)
- Mini marshmallows (optional)
- Cocoa powder or grated chocolate for dusting (optional)
Instructions:
- In a saucepan, heat the milk, cream, and sugar over medium heat until warm. Stir in chocolate chips until melted and smooth.
- In a bowl, whisk together eggs, vanilla extract, and salt. Gradually mix in the warm chocolate mixture.
- Place slices of bread in a baking dish and pour the custard mixture over them, ensuring all pieces are soaked. Let it rest for 5 minutes to absorb the custard.
- Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and add butter. Cook soaked bread slices until golden brown on each side, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Plate the French toast and top with whipped cream, mini marshmallows, or a dusting of cocoa powder.
