Ingredients:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 1/4 cup water
- 3 packets (0.25 oz each) unflavored gelatin powder
- 1 tsp citric acid (optional for a tangy flavor)
- Food coloring of choice (optional)
- (For the coating):
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp citric acid (for sour coating, optional)
- (For the rope structure):
- Twizzlers or similar licorice candy to create the base of your Nerd Ropes
Instructions:
- After blooming, add sugar and corn syrup to the saucepan with gelatin. Heat over medium heat while stirring continuously until everything is dissolved.
- Once dissolved, remove from heat and stir in any food coloring you desire along with citric acid if you want that extra tanginess.
- Carefully pour your mixture onto the prepared baking sheet in long strips—about half an inch wide—to mimic ropes.
- Allow them to set at room temperature for about an hour or until firm enough to handle.
- Once fully set, use kitchen scissors or a sharp knife to cut them into long rope-like shapes.
- In a small bowl , mix together granulated sugar and additional citric acid if using . Roll each gummy strip in this mixture until well coated .
- If desired , attach one end of each strip to a piece of Twizzler or other licorice candy by wrapping it around tightly .
