Ingredients:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 3 packets (0.25 oz each) unflavored gelatin powder
  • 1 tsp citric acid (optional for a tangy flavor)
  • Food coloring of choice (optional)
  • (For the coating):
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp citric acid (for sour coating, optional)
  • (For the rope structure):
  • Twizzlers or similar licorice candy to create the base of your Nerd Ropes

Instructions:

  1. After blooming, add sugar and corn syrup to the saucepan with gelatin. Heat over medium heat while stirring continuously until everything is dissolved.
  2. Once dissolved, remove from heat and stir in any food coloring you desire along with citric acid if you want that extra tanginess.
  3. Carefully pour your mixture onto the prepared baking sheet in long strips—about half an inch wide—to mimic ropes.
  4. Allow them to set at room temperature for about an hour or until firm enough to handle.
  5. Once fully set, use kitchen scissors or a sharp knife to cut them into long rope-like shapes.
  6. In a small bowl , mix together granulated sugar and additional citric acid if using . Roll each gummy strip in this mixture until well coated .
  7. If desired , attach one end of each strip to a piece of Twizzler or other licorice candy by wrapping it around tightly .
