Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (400g) jasmine rice, rinsed well until water runs clear
  • 2 1/2 cups (600ml) water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (2.5 ml)
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) unsalted butter

Instructions:

  1. Place the jasmine rice in a fine-mesh sieve and rinse under cold running water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and helps prevent stickiness.
  2. In a medium-sized pot, combine the rinsed rice, water, salt, and butter (if using).
  3. Bring the mixture to a rapid boil over medium-high heat.
  4. Once boiling, reduce the heat to the lowest possible setting, cover the pot tightly with the lid, and simmer for 15 minutes. Do NOT lift the lid during this time!
  5. After 15 minutes, remove the pot from the heat and let it sit, covered, for 10 minutes. Again, Do NOT lift the lid! This allows the steam to redistribute and the rice to finish cooking evenly.
  6. After the resting period, gently fluff the rice with a fork to separate the grains. Serve immediately. The secret to a great jasmine rice recipe is in the details.
