Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (200g) long-grain white rice (such as Basmati or Jasmine)
  • 2 cups (475ml) water
  • ½ teaspoon (3g) salt (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Place rice in a sieve and rinse under cold running water until the water runs clear. (This removes excess starch for fluffier results.)
  2. Combine rinsed rice, water, and salt (if using) in the saucepan.
  3. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil over medium-high heat.
  4. Reduce the heat to the lowest setting, cover the saucepan tightly, and simmer for the recommended time (see below).
  5. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it stand, covered, for 10-15 minutes. (This allows the rice to finish steaming and absorb any remaining moisture.)
  6. Fluff the rice gently with a fork and serve immediately.
