Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted (113g)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (200g)
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (45g)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (1.5g)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (2.5ml)
  • 2 large eggs (100g)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (60g)
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chocolate chips, chopped nuts, or other mix-ins (50g)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together melted butter, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt until well combined.
  3. Stir in vanilla extract. Add eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition until smooth and glossy.
  4. Gently fold in flour until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. If using, stir in chocolate chips, nuts, or other desired mix-ins.
  6. Pour batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs attached.
  8. Let cool completely in the pan before lifting out using the parchment paper overhang. Cut into squares and serve.
