Ingredients:
- 1 pound (450g) fresh green beans, trimmed
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup (25g) slivered almonds
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) lemon juice, freshly squeezed
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) water
- 1/4 teaspoon (1.5g) red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Wash and trim the green beans. Ensure they are dried thoroughly.
- Toast slivered almonds in a dry pan over medium heat until lightly golden and fragrant, about 2-3 minutes. Watch them carefully, they burn easily! Set aside.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
- Add the green beans to the skillet. Sauté, stirring frequently, until they are bright green and crisp-tender, about 6-8 minutes.
- Add the lemon juice and water to the skillet and scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
- Season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Toss to combine.
- Sprinkle with toasted almonds (if using) and serve immediately.
