- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (25g / 1 oz)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (50g / 1.75 oz)
- 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar (50g / 1.75 oz)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (15ml / 0.5 fl oz)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces (30g / 1 oz)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (120g / 4.25 oz)
- 1/2 cup rolled oats (40g / 1.5 oz)
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar (100g / 3.5 oz)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes (113g / 4 oz)
- Optional: 1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (30g / 1 oz)
Instructions:
- Peel, core, and slice the apples.
- Combine sliced apples with flour, sugars, spices, and lemon juice in a large bowl. Toss to coat evenly. Dot with small pieces of butter.
- In a separate bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and nuts (if using).
- Cut the cold butter into the dry ingredients using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Pour the apple filling into the baking dish. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples.
- Bake in a preheated oven until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbling, around 40-45 minutes.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
