Ingredients:

  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups (360 ml) whole milk or heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • 4 ounces (115g) bacon, diced or ham, diced
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 cup (115g) Gruyère cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives or green onions (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon cooking oil

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease the pie dish well with butter or cooking spray.
  2. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Sauté bacon until crispy and onion until softened and translucent. Remove from heat and set aside.
  3. In the large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk (or cream), salt, pepper, and nutmeg until well combined.
  4. Sprinkle the cooked bacon and onions evenly over the bottom of the prepared pie dish. Top with the shredded Gruyère cheese.
  5. Carefully pour the custard mixture over the bacon, onions, and cheese.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the quiche is set and lightly golden brown on top. A knife inserted into the center should come out mostly clean.
  7. Let the quiche cool for at least 10 minutes before slicing and serving. Garnish with fresh chives or green onions, if desired.
