Ingredients:
- 6 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups (360 ml) whole milk or heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Pinch of nutmeg
- 4 ounces (115g) bacon, diced or ham, diced
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1 cup (115g) Gruyère cheese, shredded
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives or green onions (optional)
- 1 teaspoon cooking oil
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease the pie dish well with butter or cooking spray.
- Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Sauté bacon until crispy and onion until softened and translucent. Remove from heat and set aside.
- In the large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk (or cream), salt, pepper, and nutmeg until well combined.
- Sprinkle the cooked bacon and onions evenly over the bottom of the prepared pie dish. Top with the shredded Gruyère cheese.
- Carefully pour the custard mixture over the bacon, onions, and cheese.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the quiche is set and lightly golden brown on top. A knife inserted into the center should come out mostly clean.
- Let the quiche cool for at least 10 minutes before slicing and serving. Garnish with fresh chives or green onions, if desired.
