Ingredients:

  • 1 pound rib-eye steak or sirloin, about 1 inch thick
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 4 crusty rolls or ciabatta, split
  • 1 cup arugula or rocket
  • 1 large tomato, sliced
  • ½ red onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 tablespoons horseradish sauce or mayonnaise
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
  • Pickles (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Combine olive oil, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder in a bowl. Rub the mixture over the steak and let it marinate for 10 minutes.
  2. While the steak marinates, slice the rolls and toast them lightly on a grill or in a toaster.
  3. Preheat the grill or skillet over high heat. Cook the steak for 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness.
  4. Remove the steak from heat and let it rest for about 5 minutes. Thinly slice the steak against the grain.
  5. Spread horseradish sauce or mayonnaise on the inside of the rolls. Layer sliced steak, arugula, tomato, and red onion in each roll.
  6. Optional: garnish with fresh parsley and pickles. Enjoy immediately while warm.
