Ingredients:
- 3 large Envy or Granny Smith apples, thinly sliced (approx. 1 lb / 450g)
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted (56g)
- 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed (65g)
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon (2g)
- 1/4 tsp salt (1.5g)
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed (approx. 9 oz / 255g)
- 1 large egg
- 1 tbsp water (15ml)
Instructions:
- Slice the apples into uniform 1/8-inch rounds. In a small bowl, whisk together melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange the apple slices in tight, overlapping circles. Drizzle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the apples, ensuring every slice is coated.
- Roll out the puff pastry and cut into rectangles or circles that match the size of the apple clusters. Gently press the pastry onto the apples and lightly crimp the edges with a fork.
- Beat the egg with water and brush the mixture over the top of the pastry for a glossy finish.
- Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 18–22 minutes until the pastry is deeply golden and apple edges are bubbling.
- Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes. Carefully slide a spatula under each tart and flip quickly onto a serving plate.
