Ingredients:
- 1 pound (450g) ground beef (80/20 or leaner)
- 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) olive oil
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) chili powder
- 1 teaspoon (5ml) ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon (5ml) smoked paprika
- ½ teaspoon (2.5ml) garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon (2.5ml) onion powder
- ¼ teaspoon (1.25ml) dried oregano
- ¼ teaspoon (1.25ml) cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
- ½ teaspoon (2.5ml) salt
- ¼ teaspoon (1.25ml) black pepper
- 12 corn or flour tortillas (6-inch diameter)
- Shredded lettuce
- Diced tomatoes
- Shredded cheddar cheese (or Monterey Jack, Colby Jack)
- Sour cream or Greek yogurt
- Salsa (Mild, Medium, or Hot!)
- Guacamole or sliced avocado
- Pickled jalapeños
- Chopped cilantro
- Lime wedges
Instructions:
- Chop the onion and garlic. Gather your taco toppings and have them ready to go.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned. Drain off any excess grease.
- Add the chopped onion to the skillet with the browned beef and cook until softened, about 3-5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Stir in the taco seasoning (either store-bought or homemade) and ½ cup (120ml) of water. Bring to a simmer and cook until the sauce has thickened slightly and the beef is coated in the seasoning, about 5-7 minutes.
- Warm the tortillas according to package instructions (e.g., in a dry skillet, microwave, or oven).
- Fill each tortilla with the seasoned ground beef and your desired toppings.
- Serve immediately with your favorite sides and enjoy!
